Tampa Bay Rays - Winning Without the Devil

The Tampa Bay Rays, striking gold as one of only three teams in the history of Major League Baseball taking the monumental 100 steps from worst to first. What a coincidence that once the "devil" jumped off the team name, things got turned around and fast. Thank you GOD!!!

The two other teams before these 2008 Tampa Bay Rays, were the 1914 Boston Braves, and in 2006 the Detroit Tigers all three World Series bound after horrible seasons. Will the Tampa Bay Rays complete the feat? I hope so. The Tampa Bay Rays have not been without talent, in fact they have so much talent at a young age, that I believe they will contend for many years to come. Evan Longoria made the switch to pro ball almost look effortless.

They have benefited from a few trades and built a team, that I believe will win the World Series. The only real edge I give the Philadelphia Phillies is their closer Brad Lidge, who made replacing The NY Mets Billy Wagner a breeze in Philly. In my opinion, the Philadelphia Phillies strike out too much and clutch hitting has been missing, giving way to the Matt Stairs Homerun. Chase Utely, needs to get hot, like beginning of the year hot, if they are to have a chance. Chase Utley's homerun surge needs to come back or the Phillies are done.

The Tampa Bay Rays on the other hand, hit far less homeruns but are much more of a contact hitting team, and I argue they have more speed and better pitching. Younger and less experienced, but nonetheless better. The addition of David Price, the Rays phenom will prove to be formidable in the World Series and years to come. Scott Kazmir, another NY Mets mistake. Um, who did we get for him?
Oh yes, I remember now, we got the other Zambrano, I think he pitched a whopping 5 games that year and got slammed in all but one. That other one, I referred to, he got destroyed in. Anyway Scott Kazmir, Matt Garza, David Price, Andy Sonnastine, very formidable baseball staff. Throw in Carl Crawford, BJ Upton, Evan Longoria, and the rest of this well performing staff and you have your worst to first success story, let's hope the story ends with a happy ending.

"The devil is only a convenient myth, invented by the real malefactors of our world"

I for one, am happy the Tampa Bay Rays are no longer the Tampa Bay Devil Rays!
