Gloves, also known as mitts, are protective coverings made of leather baseball worn on the hands for various uses. In today's world they are being used for a baseball of purposes including fashion and sports alike. In sports we have the baseball gloves which are used by players to catch the ball from their opponents and also when it is thrown by their team mates.
It was first used first used in 1870 by Doug Allison after a hand injury while playing. Although other players laughed at the idea of wearing it and termed it feminine, they later adopted the idea after they discovered that they were able to catch the ball more accurately.
Years of play have seen the baseball glove change from one design to another.Initially, it was just a slip on piece of leather with cutoff fingertips and a cushioned pad in the center of the palm to catch the ball. Later in 1920, Bill Doak a pitcher came up with a suggestion that a web be included in the center of between the forefinger and thumb in a pocket-like shape so that it would be easy to hold the ball without its slipping away when caught.
These baseball gloves are of various shapes and sizes. there is the knuckle ball mitt which fits different hand sizes, the first baseman's mitt which do not have individual fingers and are long and wide for easy scooping of balls, the infielder's mitt which is smaller than the first baseman's with shallow pockets, there is also the outfielder's which is long and has deep pockets for catching the ball midair. Finally there is the pitcher's mitt which is webbed so as to conceal the ball grip from the batter.
