The following is a review of Orioles minor league outfielder Nolan Reimold.
What I wrote then: "Reimold spent some baseball on the minor league DL last season with an oblique injury, but he had a rather successful year by batting above .300 with 11 homers in 186 at-bats at Double-A Bowie. The 24-year-old showed 20/20 potential in Single-A during the 2006 season and looks like a baseball player at the very least. The big concern is his contact rate with more than 100 strikeouts in Single-A and 47 in only 186 at-bats last season. He hardly has the upside of a Nick Markakis as a result of the contact issues. ETA: 2008"
Reimold never actually made it to the majors last season, but that does not mean that he failed to have a good year. In fact, his stock may have even risen with a good year at Double-A Bowie. At age 24, Reimold hit .284-25-84 and showed a decent contact rate. Reimold figures to continue to develop power with his large frame, and he has uncommon plate discipline for a player of his stature. The concern is that his plate discipline will decline as he moves up, and he was a bit old to be playing at Double-A this season. However, Reimold is a solid prospect and arguably the best outfield prospect in Baltimore's system. Look for him to get a chance by midseason and possibly even earlier if he has a good spring. The Orioles are certainly well off in their outfield for now with Adam Jones and Nick Markakis, and Reimold has a great opportunity to finish off the trifecta.
