Felipe Lopez finally has a home. His move to Arizona in the off season means that Lopez will consistently have a spot in the lineup, a luxury he has not had in the past few years. In Arizona, he will assume the role of the lead off man and should see a plethora of at bats come his way.
So the question is, which version of Felipe Lopez will show up in 2009? The one that is capable of hitting 20+ homeruns with 20+ steals? Or the inconsistent, streaky hitter that will only frustrate fantasy owners with his failure to refind his potential.
This author believes Lopez will become a valuable player to own in all leagues, and that he will find his form he had when he previously went 20/20. Lopez will enjoy the hitter friendly ballpark in Arizona, which will only help his power stroke, and returning to the leadoff spot should help him rejuvenate his base swiping.
I expect Lopez to make it back to the 20/20 level, barring any injuries or missed playing time. I feel this is the year Lopez becomes a force to be considered not only in NL only leagues, but in mixed deep leagues too.
He is baseball on most sites in several positions, such as on Yahoo he will be able to play 2B/3B/SS/OF, which means he can plug virtually any hole your team needs.
Lopez has been very low on the radar all through the baseball Fantasy drafts, and is still available in many leagues.
In the first game of the '09 season, he belted out 2 solo homeruns, prooving his power has not vanished and he is still a fantasy force to be considered.
